These garments are worn for about 3-4 weeks as the first stage garment to provide a moderate amount of compression as things heal. Compression garments are important as they help with swelling, edema, contour and final results after surgery. Also remember with surgery there is some disruption of the lymphatics, so these garments help to ensure adequate drainage as well and support of the lymphatic system.
