Flax or is considered by many to be the oldest fibre used in the Western world, with linen fabrics having been found dating back to 10,000BCE. Its production was centered around Europe since about 500CE, with Irish linen being one of the earliest productions. Therefore the machinery most suitable for processing flax, was developed in Europe.

When spun, it produces a very strong yarn and makes for fabric that lasts.  Linen fabric becomes softer with wear and is a great choice for warm weather.  Spin this into a lovely yarn or use in a felting project.  Though linen does not felt on its own, it will add a nice sheen to a wet felted or needle felted piece.
